WHY THIS MATTERS
Parents and caregivers often carry the weight of early childhood in silence — unsure if what they're experiencing is normal, and too exhausted to find out. Educators pour themselves into their classrooms without anyone asking how they're doing. And the expert insight that could genuinely help families often lives in academic journals that never reach the people who need it most.
These conversations exist to change that. To bridge lived experience and professional guidance. To help families feel seen, supported, and — above all — less alone.

I spent years thinking I was the only one struggling with my toddler's meltdowns. Finding out that this was normal — that other parents felt exactly like I did — changed everything for me.
— Parent, Avenues Community

As a preschool teacher for twelve years, no one ever asked me how I was doing. Having this space to share — it matters more than I can say.
— Early Childhood Educator
WHAT WE EXPLORE
Every conversation we host falls into one of three categories — each essential, each deeply needed by families navigating early childhood.
The hardest and most honest conversations come from people who are living it — parents and caregivers who have navigated the beautiful, exhausting, confusing terrain of early childhood and are willing to share what that really looks like.
Early childhood teachers, home visitors, and childcare providers see children and families in ways that parents often don't. Their perspective is invaluable — and rarely shared in spaces that can truly benefit from it.
Mental health specialists, speech therapists, occupational therapists, and child development professionals help translate behavior, development, and regulation into language families can actually understand and use — without needing a clinic appointment to access it.

COMMON QUESTIONS
We want you to feel completely informed and at ease before you apply. If your question isn't here, please reach out — we're real people and we're happy to talk.
Still have questions? We'd love to hear from you.
Not in the traditional sense. Avenues conversations are intentionally warm and informal — more like a meaningful chat with someone who truly gets it, rather than a produced podcast episode. We prioritize emotional honesty over production polish. Some conversations are shared as audio or video; others inform our written resources. We'll discuss the format with you before any commitment.
Absolutely not. Most of the people we talk with have never spoken publicly before — and that's what makes their stories so real and relatable. Our facilitators are experienced at holding space for first-time speakers. You'll be guided, never pressured. The goal is a natural conversation, not a performance.
Yes — completely. We offer full anonymity options including audio-only format with your name changed or omitted. Many powerful stories are shared anonymously. The impact isn't diminished at all. Your comfort and safety come before anything else, always.
Yes. All conversations happen virtually via video or phone call, at a time that works for your schedule. We work with parents and educators across many time zones. You can be in your living room, your car, or wherever feels comfortable. We just need about 45–60 minutes and a quiet-ish space.
A real person from the Avenues team will read your application and reach out personally within 3–5 business days. We'll have a brief introductory call to get to know you better, answer any questions you have, and discuss whether this feels like the right fit — for both of us. There's no pressure or obligation at any point in the process.
Only with your full, explicit consent. Before anything is shared — in any format, on any platform — you will review it and give final approval. You can request edits, request removal of specific sections, or withdraw consent entirely. Your story belongs to you, always.
No. Participation is completely free. Avenues is a nonprofit organization, and these conversations are part of our community mission. Your time and your story are the contribution — and we are deeply grateful for both.
YOUR VOICE MATTER HERE
Whether you are a parent who has navigated something quietly for years, an educator who has never been asked to share what you carry, or a professional whose knowledge could reach a family who needs it — this space was built for you.
